Ladybug Counting Peg Set with Matching Board
Bring counting to life with red-and-black ladybug pieces, removable counting pegs, and a matching board. Each ladybug has holes for placing pegs, giving learners a hands-on way to explore quantities while picking up and positioning individual pieces.
How to play
Choose a ladybug and place a peg into each hole, counting aloud as you go. Remove the pegs and try again, compare two ladybugs, or return the pieces to their spaces on the board. Share a short tabletop game by taking turns adding one peg at a time.
Skills to practise through play
- Counting objects one at a time.
- Comparing groups with more or fewer pegs.
- Picking up pegs and aligning them with holes.
- Following simple instructions and taking turns.
Why I recommend this as an ABA therapist
I recommend this counting set because the individual pegs make quantities visible and concrete. I can work on one-to-one counting, instructions such as “give me two pegs,” and matching quantities during play. Adding and removing pegs also gives us a clear action to demonstrate and practise, while taking turns creates opportunities to request a piece or ask for help.
I adapt the number of pieces and level of support to each learner's goals, abilities, and interests, keeping participation voluntary. Provide adult supervision and follow the manufacturer's age and safety guidance for the small pegs.
